News 10 Aug 2018

Hey everyone! It’s Space, thought I would pop pop in and write the blog this week :)

Welcome to the Ninja Kiwi blog for 10th of August, 2018!

What's been going on this week?

So we are back to a 5 day work week helping design new and awesome ways for you to pop that pesky rubber horde. One cool thing we did this week was, we had a sit-down and talked about what we all learned at NZGDC, we learned some valuable stuff and it was really informative to share it all together as a team! Something else that happened this week that we were NOT expecting was the absolute craze that was #cOuch, that was an absolutely wild ride that came out of nowhere and we really have no one to thank for the week of pure adrenaline than you guys in the community. It was so cool to see everyone come together for a week and try to solve just one thing. So we really wanted to thank you guys for that and hopefully, we can find something else that will just blow up like that in the future, but really nothing will ever beat #cOuch. We actually had some streams going in the office of people coming so close to beating it, so we all watched this unfold as a team and it was a great bonding experience for us all so thank you again.

Some news from around the ol homestead, BTD 6 is still going strong and we are working to get you guys some new stuff to play within the not so distant future :) BATTD is going fantastically with its soft launch down under and we are learning some really valuable information in regards to that! Everyone seems to be loving the game so we really can’t wait to share it with the rest of the world! BTD Battles 5.0 update is going really well! Dundee has really outdone themselves with the Tournaments update and we can’t wait for the NK open to officially kick off, but go get those tokens so you can secure your spot! There will be only one winner and I hope it’s you, yes you reading this, I am talking directly to you.

Questions from the comments:

What will happen to this website when flash is discontinued? Will we all go hide on reddit?
Don’t worry, this site will still be up when that happens, we can’t just leave you guys on the forums like that :)

Will specialty buildings ever be added to BTD6?
While I can’t rule out the future, I can say we aren't developing that at the moment :(

Will we be getting a WebGL BTD6 build though?
BTD 6 is still really new and we are trying to perfect it on mobile before we even think about other platforms, I will explain in more depth below.

I appreciate the response, because honestly I didn't expect to receive one from what I said. I want to say now that of course I can understand and respect the path being taken now, and it's not anything surprising at all. Of course it makes sense to continue to improve on BTD6 as it is, rather than rushing it out onto other platforms. When I say that it's sad to see there is no work being done now, I do mean that it is sad for me personally. Some of us don't have newer model phones to play the game on, and that's simply how it is. Some people can't play. I know I will be able to play at some point, because BTD6 is huge, but having a lack of confirmation that there is even real consideration for porting it over is what's concerning. Mobile BMC and flash BMC are very different, but I won't be able to play that game either because it's not on steam. BTD5, Battles, and SAS4 all made their ways over in their mobile forms, which I appreciate and agree with because that means we can play both versions on the computer. But BMC did not get that luxury, and so it is sad and worrying to know there is a chance, no matter how small, that BTD6 will never make it over to steam. Of course there is emulation, but not all of us have computers that can emulate the game well either (mine runs at probably a quarter speed and destroys the graphics). However it would be a great shame is BTD6 did not get the time and attention it deserves to be something as amazing as it can be. On another note, have you ever played Stardew Valley? :D

So steam, we have seen so many questions regarding this and trust us when we say that we have heard it. Something that you have to understand about game development is that you don’t want to stretch yourself too thin too quickly. We still have not perfected the game on mobile yet, it still lags on some devices and we want to get the platforms the game is released on currently as good as they can be before we think about other platforms. If we have to start juggling issues on more than one platform so early into the games lifecycle the quality of both platforms would be impacted which would not be good for mobile or steam users. Right now all we can say is we are sorry that we haven't confirmed or ported to steam yet, though it is something we have seen countless requests to do and have taken note. For now, we really hope you do find a way to enjoy it on possibly an emulator if your mobile device isn’t up to the task? I know bluestacks works really well for most people. I personally really hope you understand because I was on that side of the coin before I worked here. I would always say oh why don’t they just do that thing everyone wants! Just know there is a plan for most things and decisions that impact most people are not taken lightly. As for Stardew Valley, no I haven't but I'll give it a go!

The cake has spoken!
