Okay, todays game falls into that creative mind bending genre of puzzle games where not only do you have to solve the puzzle, but you have to modify the environment in order to get to the “exit”.
The Wizard’s Notebook is a clever little game where your very words come to life. The objective is to move your little stick figure, platform-game style, to the star using the arrow keys. The environment can be changed by typing words such as “water” into the area a little boat is sitting in, this in turn will float the little boat up to a switch that will bring a wall down to allow you to access the star (which is the level “exit”).
What I really like about the game is the way things come alive. A sketchy pencil outline of a cat is drawn across the screen by you “creating” a mouse to act as bait. This mechanic is incredibly engaging and fun.
What I don’t like, well I did find some irritating framerate spikes which meant the game ran less than smoothly on my near-new desktop pc. That said, it’s simply too good a game to pass up.
Play The Wizard’s Notebook now!

For those who don’t pay attention to video game releases, you may not be aware that this game is a complete mockery of the upcoming game: scribblenauts for nintendo ds. Scribblenauts, much like this game, revolves around the premise of writing words to solve problems and capture stars. However, this game lacks many things that the upcoming game will have. For example, Notebook limits the amount of letters to use, has a very limited limited source of words, and it still lags! This honestly is disappointing to me on many levels. Even if this wasn’t a copy of the game, I’d expect it to be somewhat more advanced than a mere dual screen touch pad with crappy graphic capabilities. What the designers at nintendo have done, however, which defies what many computer programming groups have done so far, is to look past the graphics and climactic scenery, and say “Hey! maybe if we spend a few years implementing language software and logical networks into our games, maybe it would be more worthwhile to purchase and play, instead of spending billions on explosions and gunfire that will only endure for a year or two!”If my explanation has not made an impression so far, allow me to elaborate further: Scribblenauts, made for the Ds, a system that has lacked in the production of “virtual reality”, has packed THOUSANDS of words into a perfectly FUNCTIONAL game. This “notebook” game is insulting to it for 1)copyrights, and 2)computers should easily be able to produce a non lagging game with an equally large mass of words. If you have read thus far, give yourself a cookie. for those that are suddenly interested in Scribblenauts, take another, it will be a great game without doubt.

I agree on all counts except by inferring this is a lame rip-off, because I don’t think it is. I particularly agree that the game shouldn’t be so laggy, but I already mentioned that in my original post.

Balloon ride:
At the start of the level push the up and right arrow keys. Jump on top of the balloon and over the barrier. Quickly switch the lever. This will keep the balloon from leaving the screen.
Next type “pin” in the short box and then “windwind” in the long one. The balloon will blow over to the pin, pop, and fall on you.
April 5th, 2010 at 12:56 am
light on matter
Jump on top of the flower before you type “sun” then jump after it grows
