Okay, the game is functionally complete and undergoing minor tweaks now, and will be released on October 26th 2009.
As usual comments are welcome but please don’t bother asking for new features or a closer release date, neither will happen at this point in the game.

Here’s one for all you old schoolers – Wizard Smash: “One wizard’s quest to rid the land of a curse by hitting it in the face”
Controls:
Movement: arrow keys
Swing mace: arrow keys
Mace control mode: z
Jump: x
Exit door: down arrow
Mechanics:
It’s a pretty standard retro platformer, except the player has no attack and is instantly killed when touching an enemy or enemy projectile from any direction. In order to attack, you need to swing the dispel mace into an enemy. This is primarily done by positioning, since the mace is always orbiting freely around the wizard.
The levels are randomly generated on every playthrough, and a simplified AI director is responsible for positioning enemies.
The green bar at the top is your progress through the evil keep, which goes up when you’re going the right way and down when you’ve been forced to backtrack (IE hit an enemy). As it fills up, special enemies become more frequent. When it hits 8 full boxes, there will be a boss battle, but that’s not in there yet 
The red bar is the final boss’ HP. It’s always displayed, since it only goes back up if you’ve been forced to backtrack a lot. Of course this is all speculation at this point
Enemies:
Hench Toast: toaster minions. Will either march back and forth or shoot burnt toast in your direction.
Hatba: Flying hats that swoop around
Lampet: Lamps that hang off the ceiling and shoot lightning
Zombies: Spawn in large groups and march towards the player, jumping over short obstacles.
Monkey air raids: A swarm of winged monkeys flies across the screen. The top and bottom row of walkable tiles are guaranteed to be safe from monkeys.
The wicked witch of the worst: The witch that made the curse! Casting fire magic makes her lower her shield for a few seconds.
This is a difficult and unforgiving platformer with a lot of humor. The game regularly feeds you little gems like “expect to die a lot” and it’s true.

This week we’re proud to bring you a really sweet new action RPG game. Vertical Drop Heroes offers up the perfect blend of RPG with the “falling down a big hole” genre.
In the game you start out as a regular Joe but you “rescue” heroes locked in cages (stamp on them to smash through and free). As you do this your character will take on the class of the hero you freed. There are 5 different classes that are free-able but releasing heroes of the same class as you are currently will allow you to level up that class making you more resilient and more powerful.
Completing levels (getting to the exit) allows you to progress as well as unlock new character masks. In addition there are 30 different magical artifacts and 3 gameplay modes including, wait for it, multiplayer (shared keyboard) which is exceptionally fun

- sharktooth162, Premium upgrades is the Mochi Coins thing some of you may have seen in SAS: Zombie Assault 2. Basically it allows the purchase of a few things that can make the game a little easier for people having difficulty, there’s some neat stuff in there. That said, like SAS2, the game is still a complete experience for free.

Is it just me or does the ‘rbe’ seem a little pointless?
i might be wrong, but would 1 yellow bloons have an ‘rbe’ of 4? if so, there is a clear difference between 1 yellow baloon and 4 reds .. try to destroy a yellow in round 1.

Oh no i know there had to be a catch to the almost perfect game…
I went over my bandwidth limit and internet slowed to 8kbs so i really spent an hour watching the video and saw every little detail.
Then at the top left corner i saw it. “premium upgrades”
In other words you can’t get everything and have the full game fun unless you spend real world money.

-Sharktooth, you go up ranks as a matter of course, you can see this in the video as towers are unlocked. The buy rank 31 is to allow people to bypass the regular unlock process if they are impatient
As I mentioned in another post the “real world money” element is an important evolution of free flash games, to allow developers to make higher quality games (longer production cycles). To put your mind at rest though, it’s our intention to always offer a full game experience for free.

- Fabrizio bs, Camo Bloons can be detected by a few towers but can also be circumvented by tacks, pineapples and mortars (which will repeatedly bomb the same area regardless of any Bloons (visible or not).

soup852 – just b patient! he is working really hard on this and if he gets pressured and releases it early he might accidently miss something and the game couldve been better if he had waited like another week.

The RBE is purely a count of “pop value” or what are effectively hit-points. It’s useful for telling how difficult the upcoming level is. It’s also quite interesting. A MOAB for example has an RBE of 550

A lot of new things are coming out these days. We had BTD for iPhone released just a few days ago, then Windows 7 is coming out in a few weeks, then BTD4, then the first Sims 3 expansion pack, and one of my favorite chess iPhone apps is coming out at some point this month, but i don’t know when!

But it is really good the way it is… HACKERS! hackers are attacking the site and he is spending all his energy fighting them off with nothing but a handful of super monkey plasma so he has to drain some power from the blog causing it to turn off sometimes. I think BTD3 was what got people so interested.
BTD2 and 1 were not-so-good (in comparison to 3 and what 4 will be), but everybody knew there would be room for improvement. I can’t wait for a BTD5 blog to open up too, because then we will see even more comments and even more people’s great ideas, which really help the developers improve.

This game definitely came out of nowhere for me, I knew it was in development, and now that I actually go to check how it’s going, I find out it’s coming out in less than 2 weeks, awesome. FPS DOUG, Mochi coins buy premium upgrades (only for people who struggle, don’t worry) and are paid for with money.
Btd fan, yes, you can change the mortars attack spot.

@Kurb stomp, mochi coins are for the people who maybe aren’t as old or as good at video games to help them finish the game (chris hasn’t given any examples. maybe extra lives, or double money?) and u pay for them with real money. My biggest question is, is there a BTD4 Port to the App Store coming our way? You did it with BT3 so doing it with 4 shouldn’t be too difficult. Main thing though if you do it make sure to drop the Mochi coins and add whatever they provided in either a $1 In App Purchase or simply include them in the options menu. Anyway thanks for countless hours of fun, me and my friends enjoy playing it, and we would all love to support you directly via buying this as an app.

Chris already said he isn’t making a btd4 update for the iPod cuz they’re so much different and it would take to long. Also, it isn’t as simple as just taking the game and putting it on the iPod as u made it sound. If he did, it would be next year, about summer prob. And it would b a different game from the btd app already in the app store. But my guess is that he won’t do that.

I saw didn’t not see anywhere (And I looked) that he wouldn’t put this up as an app. I’m not saying he didn’t, I’m simply saying I couldn’t find it. Also it makes little sense not to. BTD is a huge money maker and if they are desiring money enough to put Mochi into the game I have no clue as to why they would turn down porting this to the App Store. The last one was a gold mine and this one having more functionality would do even better. It might not be easy, but transferring BTD3 has given them experience at doing so and once you get a gurnateed hit app in the app store nothing but good things can come of it.

this game looks so awesome! I love it! And i’ve got monday off school! I think the only three problems I have are:
1. Will the game be to easy with all the new upgrades and towers?
2. The graphics (but that is not much of a problem as long as the game is good)

I tried Invisible Ninja’s idea but after playing BTD3 a lot, I didn’t do very well in BTD2 and failed BTD2 on easy mode. I used to be able to beat BTD2 every time.

So if you live in Eastern US time zone, it will be released 19 hours early for you than it will be in NZ. For Central, Mountain, and Pacific, it’s 18, 17, and 16 hours respectively.

Fact is, everyone will get the game at the same time (this is the Internet, is it not?). However, one person may get the game at 4:00 in the morning and another at 4:00 in the afternoon because they are on different parts of the world. If the game is released at 12:00 AM on October 26 in New Zealand, it will be released at 6:00 AM on October 25 (I double-checked the math this time) in Honduras (and Central U.S.).
Why so many hours? In the middle of the Pacific Ocean is a line that divides the west side to be ahead and the east to be behind in time. The difference of eastern Russia and Alaska is only 3 hours, yet eastern Russia is almost a day ahead of Alaska. Same thing with New Zealand and wherever you live (if it is west enough from New Zealand).
Hopefully this is making more sense.

-ryst0501, ads earn very little these days which is why we are excited by the prospects of microtransactions in flash games as the allow for bigger and better games etc. I’m glad to hear you’d support us though, it really means a lot to everyone that has worked on the game to see their work not only played, but paid for. Wherever this game is played we get the money of which Mochi gets a cut for providing the service, security etc.

at the end of the game where it comes up if u want to finish or play freeplay mode, i couldnt click freeplay becuz when i tried to click, this rightclick screen popped up, when i was leftclicking. this prevented me from playing future levels. but maybe it was just me ill try again later. Ohhh yeaaaa chris WHERE IS THE LIGHTSABER MONKEY?????

i used track 1 on easy – and yes i was using tornado. Just ooccured to me. Because of the masses of bloons in earlier levels in which i couldnt see the ‘magic;’ compared to the relatively small amount in that level at the start, it looked like it was an error, but yes, just whirlwind. sorry for false alarm.

yeah, wirlwind is great, but my personal favourite towers are the banana farm and the monkey ace. also love glue gunner, monkey apprentice and mortar tower. Infact, i like all the new towers a part from the buccaneer, i just find it restricted and not that powerful. A great improvement.

In the premium tracks intermediate two the one that looks like its on an island are you soposed to be able to put buccaneer around the out side? it looks like water so you should be able to but idk? it could be in the sky too who knows just wondering what others think? i would def rec. getting all the premium upgrades.. they are sweet!

Chris, can you answer my questions? First of all, GREAT game. I love everything about it. I also mentioned a cpl of stuff in the newest BTD4 blog posts. Much more challenging, but not too challenging so that it is not frustrating. You and your developers have really put in a lot of effort to make this, I know this for sure!
I also like how you even it out with pros and cons, e.g. Whirlwind.
I also like how you used the unlock process, so that cheating is more restricted. BTW, you stopped the placement cheat (where you right click then left click). Nice job!
But I have 2 questions. I know this is annoying but can you please speed up the FF? It works but not to a satisfactory degree.
And, what lvl is Lightsaber Monkey? I’m rank 19 and I was looking forward to this the most….

ok BIG problem.
I was on map 1 – hard and i opened a new tab on firefox. Suddenly, the game almost grinds to a halt; occasionally coming back to life for approximately 0.2 seconds at a guess. I manage to close the tab, and the game goes back to normal, but the mouse itself is then stuck, i cannot click on anything, anywhere, inclduing ocons on my desktop. After admitting that i had lost my work, i pressed alt+F4 to forcibly shut the game down. Niether this nor going to the task manager works. Eventually, i had to turn off my computer…
any ideas why this happened?

-Jojo, it’ll be available for other sites sometime around the middle of Nov. But as I said before it won’t change things for you as the data is stored to the mochigames account and has nothing to do with the site you play on. What you’ll need to do is logout of your mochigames account then clear your flash cookie, then reload the game then make a new mochi games account, this (hopefully) should work although the game is designed to remember your stuff not forget it!

Ok so i basicly loaded up apoc mode and at round like 50 it wouldnt let me go to the next round or keep going on but it gave me the save option so i saved and loaded up and it said i was on level one on a normal medium game and i still had everything
this picture was taken of level 58 of 60 but the only difference from 58 and level 1 for me this run through was that i change 6 ring of fires for 3 glue monkeys and 3 ice towers

every round i have money come in 7 times 11×2 = 22 22×7 = 154 i was making 154k every round remeber i started on apocalypse it messed up and switched me to a normal medium game and ive had everything in the picture since “Round 1″ of that needless to say i kicked level 1′s ass with this.

To quit a fun and addicting game like btd4 over something as silly as the fast forward option is well as stated silly…The fast forward feature does work and it does make them go faster. Not much faster but there is a noticeable change You wouldnt want them going down the track at the same speed the sun god (super monkey ) shoots would u?

WOW! I love this game. I figured out a way to get super far in it. You just make mochigame account get free frag bombs get rank 31 and fill whole map with moab munchers or something then place all over the map and frag bombs pop black bloons while doing a bunch of damage not to mention 10 times more damage to MOABS and B.F.B s. I Love this game. I hope there will be a bloons td 5 in a few years when I’m done playing this one completely. I have only gotten to level 83.

In Bloons tower defense 4, each tower has a secret upgrade, i unlocked all these secret upgrades. For the dart monkey, is the triple shot of the spike-o-pult, for the tack shooter, its the fire ring, for the boomerang monkey, its the lightsabre monkey, for the bomb tower, its the M.O.A.B mauler, for the ice tower, its the arctic wind, for the mortar tower, its the mortar battery, for the glue gunner, its the glue splatter, for the monkey beacon (sure is the super monkey storm beacon), for the monkey ace, its the Operation: dart storm, for the monkey buccaneer, for the monkey apprentice, its the tempest tornado (change the monkey archmage into a monkey wizard), for the super monkey its the sun god (ultimately powerful, can destroy a B.F.B easily) and for the banana farm, its the Banana research facility. Also the road spikes, monkey glue and pineapple its here (monkey glue cost less than pineapple and road pkikes in Bloons tower defense 4).

Hi everyone!
While playing BTD4 I reached level 115 at the first map in easy mode. At this level the game is hardly to play. It laggs veeeery very much, and if you hit the right mouse button (by accident), you cant do anything anymore. The memory usage of BTD4 raises to more than 500MB. Could you please kill these bugs so i can reach level 200 and more, if possible. Thanks alot!

Sandbox mode its very good (in the menu, its telling unlimited money and unlimited lives) but is not real, just 100 thousand of lives and 1 billion of money. In sandbox, i cover all the screen of sun gods (fourth upgrade of super monkey) and i make tons and tons of B.F.Bs and M.O.A.Bs and i did. Sun god is really ultimately powerful.

thx for the game , altho i cant seem to understand the medal reward system. I got my registered Mochigames account , and i finished the first 3 maps on hard , wich gave me 3 gold medals. Meanwhile when i check Mochigames website , in my account it says that did not earn any medals at all? How come , is there something special i need to do ?
also i updated firefox and cleared my history , now it also seems i cannot see my medals on the maps itself when i start a new game.
but i have no problem loading a saved game. is this a bug?

when I sign into mochigames, it says that i’m signed in. i try to save in btd4 and it says i need to log in, so i press ‘login’, it says i successfully logged in, so THEN i try to save, and it just says i’m not logged in again…… ???? please help

Does anybody know which type of video recordsdata are supported? I bear in mind the Instinct only could dl 3gp using opera mini. I downloaded the twist ap, perhaps that is the problem? How can I watch videos from websites aside from youtube? Which file sorts? Normally I’m given the option of 3gp or mpeg4. Can’t get both to work. Thanks for your time! Rattling I wish I was eligible for the improve to EVO!

There’s a link earlier in a comment by Chris giving a Firefox link to reset your flash shared object thing… btw, I’m pretty sure M.O.A.B.s CAN be glued, once popped I think the browns inside are glued. Of course browns can’t be slowed by glue, but the ones inside will be slowed anyway and with the corrosive upgrade the glue’ll eat through the bloons…
